The information on this page is for renewal applicants only. If you have not previously received the scholarship you are applying for, please return to the scholarship section for new applicants and follow the instructions under the appropriate fund.

Aspire Scholarship

Aspire Scholarship recipients in good academic standing are invited to apply for renewal consideration for the upcoming academic year. Please note that if you are applying for renewal consideration and you have dropped a course, you must notify the foundation.

Please submit a typed personal statement in business letter format telling us about your college experiences and your goals for next year. The committee is especially interested in hearing about any obstacles you are facing, how you hope to overcome them, and how the committee might be able to help you. Also include an official transcript from your fall semester; and your complete Federal Student Aid Report (SAR), which must include your expected family contribution (EFC) and your family’s adjusted gross income (AGI). Do not send the FAFSA.

Gretchen Behre Music Scholarship

Gretchen Behre Music Scholarship recipients in good academic standing are invited to apply for renewal consideration for the upcoming academic year. Howard and Constance Bennett Scholarship recipients who continue to prepare for a career in the medical field and are in good academic standing are invited to apply for renewal consideration for the upcoming academic year.

Please submit a typed personal statement in business letter format summarizing your educational activities this year, particularly with regard to your medical-related studies, and your goals for next year and an official transcript from your fall semester, indicating a minimum GPA of 2.5. Eligible recipients must demonstrate a level of academic achievement suitable for predicting success in college, strong character and family values, and a Federal Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of $5,000 or less.

Challenger Memorial Scholarship

Challenger scholarship recipients in good academic standing who will be enrolled full-time in the coming academic year are invited to submit a Challenger Scholarship renewal application (Word | PDF). Your submission must include a typed letter telling us about this year's experiences and your hopes and aspirations for next year; a copy of the school's financial aid letter for the next academic year; an official transcript from your fall semester; and a recommendation letter from a current teacher, coach or faculty advisor of your choice. The letter must be current (dated after January 1, 2012), on official letterhead, contain your first and last name, and be signed by the writer, who must identify his/her relationship to you (not a family member). E-mail letters are not acceptable.

Downeast Scholarship

Downeast Scholarship recipients in good academic standing are encouraged to apply for renewal consideration throughout their post-secondary and graduate education. Your personal letter, grades, and recommendation letter are critically important components of your application. Download the application (Word | PDF) and please follow the submission guidelines carefully.

Applicants must be enrolled full-time (minimum of 12 credits per semester). Recipients who successfully complete a two-year degree program at WCCC and plan to pursue an undergraduate degree at UMO, UMM or Maine Maritime Academy and meet all other requirements of the scholarship may apply for renewal consideration.

Pearl Starbird Scholarship

Pearl Starbird scholarship recipients in good academic standing are encouraged to apply for renewal consideration throughout their college-level education. Please take a moment to review the eligibility criteria.

Preference will be given to applicants studying classical music. Students of other genres of music must demonstrate a component of studio training/discipline in their curriculum. Preference will be given to applicants studying fine arts, with special consideration given to painting, drawing, and sculpture. Art and music, in this case, are not to be confused with architecture, interior design/decorating, landscape design/architecture and culinary arts, all of which are equally exciting endeavors, but which are not the focus of this scholarship.

If you would like to be considered for a renewal award, please submit the following materials:

Personal Letter: Please write the Starbird Committee summarizing your progress in terms of your art/music-related experiences. There is no required minimum word count, but your letter must be in business letter format and should not exceed two pages double-spaced.
Portfolio: Please follow the instructions on the Portfolio Requirements Form.
Letter of Recommendation: Please submit a letter of recommendation from a current art or music teacher detailing your accomplishments and your commitment to a career in your chosen field. The letter must be current (dated after January 1, 2012), on official letterhead, contain your first and last name, and be signed by the writer, who must identify his/her relationship to you (not a family member). E-mailed letters are not acceptable.
Transcript: an official transcript from your fall semester. A printout from the internet is not acceptable.
Student Aid Report: your complete Federal Student Aid Report (SAR), which must include your expected family contribution (EFC) and your family’s adjusted gross income (AG). Do not send the FAFSA.
Financial Aid Letter: a copy of your college financial aid offer for the upcoming academic year (please send when available).
