Aspire Scholarship

Aspire Scholarship recipients in good academic standing are invited to apply for renewal consideration for the upcoming academic year.

Please submit a typed personal statement in business letter format telling us about your college experiences and your goals for next year; a copy of your most recent college transcript as of the May 15 application deadline (i.e., from your fall semester; do not wait to submit your year-end transcript. Pearl Starbird Scholarship

Pearl Starbird scholarship recipients in good academic standing are encouraged to apply for renewal consideration throughout their college-level education. Please take a moment to review the eligibility criteria.

Preference will be given to applicants studying classical music. Students of other genres of music must demonstrate a component of studio training/discipline in their curriculum.

Preference will be given to applicants studying fine arts, with special consideration given to painting, drawing, and sculpture.

Art and music, in this case, are not to be confused with architecture, interior design/decorating, landscape design/architecture and culinary arts, all of which are equally exciting endeavors, but which are not the focus of this scholarship.

If you would like to be considered for a renewal award, please submit the following materials by April 15:

  • Personal Letter: Please write the Starbird Committee summarizing your progress in terms of your art/music-related experiences. There is no required minimum word count, but your letter must be in business letter format and should not exceed two pages double-spaced. Please remember that grammar, spelling, and punctuation count.
  • Portfolio: Please follow the instructions on the Portfolio Requirements Form.
  • Letter of Recommendation: Please submit a letter of recommendation from a current art or music teacher detailing your accomplishments and your commitment to a career in your chosen field. The letter must be current (dated after January 1, 2010), on official letterhead, contain your first and last name, and be signed by the writer, who must identify his/her relationship to you (not a family member). E-mailed letters are not acceptable.
  • Transcript: A copy of your most recent school transcript showing GPA to date. (i.e., from your fall semester; do not wait to submit your year-end transcript). A printout from the internet is not acceptable.
  • Student Aid Report: A copy of your complete Federal Student Aid Report (SAR), which must include your expected family contribution (EFC) and your family’s adjusted gross income (AG). Do not send the FAFSA.
  • Financial Aid Letter: A copy of your college financial aid offer for the 2010-20011 academic year (please send when available).
