
New Maine Community Foundation Board members
Brian Hamel (L) and George Shaw
The Maine Community Foundation has elected two members to its Board of Directors. They are Brian Hamel of Presque Isle and George Shaw of Newcastle.
Hamel is a managing partner at Thompson-Hamel, LLC, a financial services firm in Presque Isle. Prior to joining the firm, he was president of Hamel Enterprises, a consulting firm, and president of the Loring Development Authority of Maine. Among his honors, Hamel was named State of Maine’s Champion for Economic Growth by the Maine Development Foundation. He is chairman of the board of trustees of the Maine Winter Sports Center and serves on MaineCF’s finance committee. Hamel is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
Shaw was an attorney at Hemenway & Barnes in Boston from 1968 to 2000, specializing in trusts and estates. He is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and former director of Associated Grantmakers of Massachusetts. He is active as a volunteer, serving on the boards of the Island Institute, Berkshire Choral Festival, and the Maine board of the Conservation Law Foundation. Shaw graduated from Trinity College and Harvard Law School. He served in the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General Corps.
