2007 Morrison Film Fellowship Winners

Nikolai Fox of Portland, Jak Peters of Augusta, and Cecily Pingree of North Haven are the 2007 recipients of Morrison Film Fellowship, awarded by the Maine Community Foundation. Named for the late filmmaker Jane Morrison, the fund was established in1988 to support budding filmmakers.

A 2000 graduate of College of the Atlantic, Fox has recently been editing a documentary he made of a group of legendary revivalist old-time fiddlers living in the mountains of Vermont. He will attend two film courses at the Maine Photographic Workshops with his $1,990 Morrison Fellowship.

Holding a BFA in acting from New York University, Peters recently made a film titled The Minute Man, inspired by the silent comedies of Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd and Charlie Chaplin. The $1,000 Morrison grant will underwrite submission fees and travel expenses related to film festivals Peters hopes to attend. He is a graduate of Cony High School, where Jane Morrison taught English.

Pingree is a graduate of Lewis and Clark College and has completed additional training in film and photography at the New School University, the Maine International Film and Television Workshops and Maine College of Art. The $740 Morrison Fellowship will pay for two workshops at the International Center for Photography in New York City.

A volunteer advisory committee reviews applications. Applications for next year's fellowship(s) are due January 15, 2008. Morrison Film Fellowship guidelines.
