This year’s Inspiring Philanthropy evening at USM’s Abromson Center was a great success. Nearly 200 people turned out to hear Thomas J. Tierney talk about how all of us can be smarter in our giving. Highlights included Tierney’s give-and-take with Forrest Berkley, a member of the Maine Community Foundation’s Investment Committee, and a performance by the Pihcintu Multicultural Children’s Chorus. The event was covered by the Maine Sunday Telegram.
Over the years the community foundation has hosted a range of speakers—author and journalist Julie Salamon, creative economy expert Bill Strickland, social capital guru Lewis Feldstein, among others—each of them sharing their best ideas about the potential of philanthropy to build community.
