Inspiring Philanthropy, May 2011: A slideshow
More than 100 friends of the Maine Community Foundation gathered at the Lucerne Inn to hear Tom and Kate Chappell share their thoughts on business, art, the environment, and philanthropy. The couple highlighted how their giving grows out of a sense of responsibility to the planet -- and to Maine, which has been the foundation of their success.
The Chappells are among Maine’s most distinguished entrepreneurs. The couple moved to Kennebunk in 1968, raised five children, and established Tom’s of Maine, which became a pioneer and national leader in personal care products. They recently launched Ramblers Way, specializing in next-to-the-skin fine apparel. Tom has written two books on business ethics; Kate is a painter, printmaker, and poet.
The video below is a nine-minute edited excerpt of the Chappells’ presentation. To watch their full remarks (45 minutes) with introduction by Maine Community Foundation President and CEO Meredith Jones, click here.
