John and Ellen Emery Science Grants

Background
The John & Ellen Emery Science Grants encourage all Union #98 teachers to promote the study of science in their classrooms. These grants should increase opportunities for students to understand science and its relevance to their daily lives and, perhaps, inspire some of them to pursue careers in science and related fields. Proposals are invited from full-time teachers working in any Union #98 school. We encourage teachers in all disciplines to apply for support to integrate science into their curriculum.
Priorities
Grants of $100 - $2,000 will be awarded for the following categories:
- Equipment for science-related projects, particularly for pilot and collaborative programs<
- Classroom library resources for students and teachers
- Teacher professional development, including Union #98 collaborative and peer learning opportunities, conference-related expenses, and coursework
- Curriculum development
Evaluation Criteria
Applications are evaluated on the following criteria
- Innovation - What have you always wanted to do but didn't have the money to make happen?
- pilot projects that enhance standard curriculum
- How will this project help students learn science in a different way
- Emery generally supports a particular project for up to two years, after which we hope successful projects can be incorporated into the school budget.
- Teaching Impact - value to students; number of students impacted
- Collaboration - projects that result in: Proposals are invited from full-time, K-12 teachers working in any Union 98 school. Priority is given to applications from K-8 teachers. If you have received an Emery Grant since 1998 and have not yet submitted a completion report describing the results of that award, you are ineligible for future awards.
- interdisciplinary projects (i.e. "history of science" or "fishing & the economy")
- peer learning among teachers
- partnering with community resources (labs, businesses, individuals)
- equipment and curriculum sharing
- cost effective purchasing strategies
Eligibility Requirements

If you have received an Emery Grant since 1998 and have not yet submitted a completion report describing the results of that award, you are ineligible for future awards.
