The Maine Public Broadcasting Network’s Feed a Family campaign was a huge success, with MPBN surpassing its $180,000 goal by nearly $40,000. Triggered by the successful pledge drive, the $50,000 donation from MaineCF donors will help Good Shepherd Food Bank feed 150,000 Maine families.
Below are excerpts from MaineCF President and CEO Meredith Jones's interview about the community foundation's participation in the "Feed a Family" campaign.
Why Do We Care?
The Campaign
For every pledge made to MPBN during the “Feed a Family” campaign, regardless of the amount, the Maine Community Foundation will contribute enough money from its donors to the Good Shepherd Food-Bank to feed a family of four for about 12 days.
Democratizing Philanthropy
“Partnering with Good Shepherd and MPBN gives the community foundation the opportunity to engage donors in a significant cause and to help raise awareness of food insecurity in Maine,” says Meredith Jones, president and CEO of the Maine Community Foundation.
A Win-Win-Win Situation
The Good Shepherd Food-Bank provides food for more than 36,000 Mainers each week through a network of more than 600 partner agencies, which include soup kitchens, shelters, after-school programs, food pantries, daycare centers, senior centers, and youth programs. The food-bank distributes over 12 million pounds of food per year to all 16 counties in Maine.
