Environmental Funders Network
Greater impact through collaboration

Maine Community Foundation and Maine Philanthropy Center convened a group of funders in 2005 to explore a shared interest in collaborative funding of environmental issues.  As a result, a steering committee was established to guide the future of a new environmental partnership, the Environmental Funders Network (EFN).

The steering committee is committed to creating a funder network that will find value in learning from nonprofits and funders about how to address the most pressing issues facing Maine's environment.  The network is nonpartisan and convenes funders to learn about Maine environmental issues and opportunities.

While the mission of the EFN is broad, programs for 2007-2008 will focus on climate change and energy.

The Environmental Funders Network helps to identify and create ways to improve and sustain Maine’s natural environment.

EFN accomplishes its mission by:

  • Identifying opportunities for individual or joint funding of initiatives
  • Providing opportunities for education and sharing of information to gain a deeper understanding of trends, challenges, and solutions
  • Encouraging networking among donors, funders, nonprofits, and others interested in protecting Maine’s natural environment

In our work we value:
  • Expertise and experiences of nonprofits and community groups
  • Education and information provided by members of the partnership
  • Diverse philanthropic interests and perspectives
  • Candid communication
