Established in 1993, the Knox County Fund provides permanent support to nonprofits in the region. Overseen by an advisory committee of local community leaders who partner with the foundation to build charitable resources, the Knox County Fund has awarded almost 100 grants since 1995.
The Maine Community Foundation manages the Knox County Fund, and local leaders, knowledgeable about their communities, help review grant applications and distribute funding.
Recent grants from the Knox County Fund
- Camden Public Library, Camden, to support "An American Cultural Journey - Books, Music and Movies!", three programs highlighting visit by David McCullough
- North Haven Arts & Enrichment, North Haven, to support the "It's Our Future Too: Middle School Island Sustainability Conference"
- The Coastal Children's Museum, Rockland, to arrange and attend a professional board training session and guided retreat.

- In addition to the Knox County Fund, the Maine Community Foundation holds nearly $6.6 million in assets dedicated to Knox County in the form of donor-advised funds, scholarships, designated funds to support specific organizations, and field-of-interest funds.
- Since 2002 more than $123,000 in additional grant support for projects serving Knox County has come from a network of Maine Community Foundation donors in support of proposals submitted to the foundation’s competitive grant programs.
