Something Rotten in Denmark

Residents of Denmark, Maine, have a new art display in town, at the municipal dump. “Something Rotten in Denmark” is the work of artists Cecilia Hendrikx and Tara Karpinski, who were interviewed on Maine Public Radio recently. The project, which runs through next August, is sponsored by the Denmark Arts Center and received a grant from a Maine Community Foundation donor-advised fund.

In this photo, Karpinski applies mica pieces to the municipal building at the Denmark dump.

Pop-up Playscapes

On a recent summer afternoon, children took over Portland’s Kennedy Park to build fantasy houses, rocket ships, and fortresses out of recycled materials. The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine hosted the Pop-Up Playscape event, which received support from the community foundation’s Cumberland County Fund. Another Pop-Up Playscape will happen August 31 at the Eastern Promenade
