Agency Nonprofit Funds

Founded in 2012 by Ray and Sandy Gauvin, the Aroostook Aspirations Initiative (AAI) awards an annual scholarship to a senior in each of the 16 high schools in Aroostook County. The initiative focuses on youth who choose to attend Northern Maine Community College, Husson University, University of Maine at Fort Kent, or University of Maine at Presque Isle, which allows students to stay in Aroostook County and possibly live at home to make college more affordable.

Preserve your organization through the Maine Community Foundation

Nonprofit organizations can transfer an existing endowment or other long-term fund to the Maine Community Foundation. An agency nonprofit fund is a simple and effective way to take advantage of the foundation’s professional investment management services while building a perpetual source of funding and promoting sustainability for your nonprofit. When your organization partners with MaineCF, you:

  • Participate in a diversified investment pool of approximately $420 million
  • Join more than 225 nonprofit organizations, school districts, and municipalities that have entrusted their endowments to the foundation
  • Get investment oversight from a dedicated investment committee composed of financial and business professionals, each with extensive experience in the investment and financial services industries
  • Associate with a nationally regarded foundation whose only “business” is philanthropy.

Nonprofit organizations are critical providers of social and educational programs for Maine. The state benefits from having organizations working on a broad range of issues, from improved health care and affordable housing to education to environmental protection and artistic expression. The Maine Community Foundation is proud to be a resource -- for ideas, grant support, and bringing people together -- for organizations whose collective mission is to make a difference in the lives of people of all ages and of all backgrounds.

By working with MaineCF, nonprofit organizations can take advantage of the foundation’s professional investment management services. In many cases, nonprofit organizations are not able to retain the level of investment expertise and oversight available through MaineCF, which pools its various funds to achieve one large investment portfolio.

In addition, experience has shown that the permanency of MaineCF’s mission reassures many prospective donors who value the stewardship that the foundation provides against a change in the status or fortunes of a nonprofit or agency in the future.
